- What is a good website speed test score?
- Judge yourself on the field metrics, not the lab score: Largest Contentful Paint at or under 2.5 seconds, Interaction to Next Paint at or under 200 milliseconds, and Cumulative Layout Shift at or under 0.1, for at least 75% of real visits. A lab score of 90+ is a good sign but it is a simulation, not the grade.
- Why is my lab score different from my real-user data?
- The lab score comes from one simulated load on a throttled mid-range device, while field data is thousands of real visits across every device and network your audience actually uses. A site can score poorly in the lab and pass in the field, or the reverse. When they disagree, the field data is what Google uses.
- Why does the test say there is no real-user data?
- Google only publishes field data once a page or origin has enough samples, so lower-traffic sites often have none. The lab diagnostics still identify what is slow and what to fix — and as traffic grows, field data appears automatically.
- How do I make my website faster?
- In order of payoff: cache pages so the server stops rebuilding them, optimize and correctly size images (usually the largest saving), remove render-blocking CSS and defer non-critical JavaScript, then audit third-party scripts. Fix the layers from the server upward — each one multiplies the ones above it.
- Is this speed test free?
- Yes, with no signup. It uses Google’s PageSpeed Insights data, which is the same source Search Console reports from, presented alongside a ranked fix list.
