SEO Simulator
Test proposed SEO changes before making them live. When an AI provider is configured, the simulator analyses your planned changes with AI to predict their potential impact on rankings, traffic, and click-through rates. If AI is unavailable, it falls back to a local heuristic analysis.
How It Works
The SEO Simulator follows a 4-step wizard process:
- 1. Select Pages — Choose up to 5 pages to simulate changes on. Use the search field to find pages by title and filter by post type.
- 2. Define Changes — Specify the SEO modifications you want to test across SEO Elements, Content Changes, Technical SEO, and Link Building.
- 3. Run Analysis — Choose Quick Analysis or Detailed Analysis and run the simulation. AI-backed runs consume 1 simulation per page from the daily AI quota; heuristic fallback runs do not.
- 4. Review Results — View the impact score, predicted metric changes, prioritised recommendations, and risk assessment.
Getting Started
- Go to ProRank SEO → Agency Hub in WordPress
- Click the SEO Simulator tab
- Select a page you want to test changes on
- Enter your proposed changes and click "Run Simulation"
What You Can Change
The Change Editor groups proposed modifications into four categories that match the mounted UI:
- SEO Elements: Title Tag, Meta Description
- Content Changes: Content Updates, Heading Structure
- Technical SEO: Schema Markup (Article, Product, Local Business, FAQ, How-To, Review, Recipe, Event) and Page Speed Improvements (Optimize Images, Minify CSS/JS, Enable Caching, Implement Lazy Loading, Reduce Server Response Time)
- Link Building: Internal Links, External Links
URL changes are not editable in the current simulator UI.
Analysis Types
Quick Analysis
- Core metrics and recommendations
- Faster turnaround
- AI-backed runs consume 1 simulation per page from the daily AI quota; heuristic fallback runs do not
- Best for routine checks
Detailed Analysis
- Comprehensive insights with ranking factor breakdown
- Adds ranking factors, risk analysis, and timeline
- AI-backed runs consume 1 simulation per page (same as Quick); heuristic fallback runs do not consume quota
- Best for strategic decisions
Understanding Results
Impact Score
An overall score from -100 to +100 indicating the predicted net impact of your proposed changes:
- +50 to +100: Highly positive impact expected
- +20 to +49: Moderate positive impact
- 0 to +19: Minor positive impact
- -20 to 0: Minor negative impact
- Below -20: Significant negative impact — reconsider changes
Recommendations
The AI provides prioritised action items:
- High Priority: Changes likely to have the most impact
- Medium Priority: Worthwhile improvements
- Low Priority: Nice-to-have tweaks
Impact Chart
A visual chart shows the predicted impact across different ranking factors, colour-coded for positive (green) and negative (red) effects.
Daily Simulation Quota
The daily quota applies to AI-backed simulations only. The plugin tracks usage when AI was actually called; heuristic fallback runs do not count against the quota. The quota resets each day on your site’s timezone.
- Each page analysed by AI consumes 1 simulation, regardless of Quick or Detailed mode
- Heuristic fallback runs (no AI provider configured, or AI call failed) do not consume quota
- Maximum 5 pages per simulation request
- Default daily limit on Agency+ is 100 AI-backed simulations per day
Best Practices
- Test one type of change at a time for clearer insights
- Start with Quick Analysis, then run Detailed for promising changes
- Compare simulations across similar page types
- Use simulations before major content overhauls
- Always verify predictions with real-world monitoring after implementation
Limitations
- Google algorithm updates
- Competitor actions
- Seasonal factors
- User behaviour changes
- Maximum 5 pages per simulation
- AI-backed analysis requires an active AI provider API key and outbound connectivity; otherwise the module falls back to a local heuristic analysis with reduced depth
- Each simulation is independent — results are not saved for historical comparison
- The AI analyses based on its training and current SEO best practices, not live Google ranking data
Troubleshooting
No AI provider configured
Without an AI provider, the simulator runs the local heuristic analysis automatically. To enable the AI-backed path:
- Go to ProRank SEO → Settings → AI Configuration
- Select your preferred AI provider
- Enter your API key
- Save settings and run the simulation again
No results displayed after simulation
Things to check:
- If no AI provider is configured, the simulator runs the local heuristic fallback automatically — results should still render
- If the daily AI quota is exceeded, wait until the next day or reduce the number of pages in the request
- If results still do not render, reload the Agency Hub page and run the simulation again
Daily limit exceeded
Options:
- Wait until the next day (the daily quota resets on your site’s timezone)
- Reduce the number of pages per simulation request
