Google Analytics 4 Integration

Connect GA4 to view traffic metrics directly in your WordPress dashboard

Overview

Google Analytics 4 (GA4) is Google's next-generation analytics platform that provides comprehensive insights into user behavior across your website.

ProRank SEO integrates with GA4 to inject the tracking script and display key metrics in your WordPress dashboard.

Pro+ Required

Google Analytics 4 integration requires a Pro+ license or higher.

Setup Instructions

Step 1: Create GA4 Property

  1. Go to Google Analytics
  2. Click Admin (gear icon) in the bottom left
  3. Click "Create Property"
  4. Enter your website details
  5. Select your business information
  6. Accept the terms of service

Step 2: Ensure a GA4 Property Exists

Make sure you have a GA4 property and web data stream set up in Google Analytics. You will need the Measurement ID (starts with G-) for the tracking setup below.

Step 3: Enable GA4 Tracking Script

To output the GA4 tracking script on your site's frontend:

  1. Navigate to ProRank SEO → Analytics → Settings
  2. Toggle "Enable Google Analytics 4" on
  3. Enter your Measurement ID (G-XXXXXXXXXX)
  4. Optionally enable "Anonymize IP" and "Track Downloads"
  5. Pro+ only: enable "Consent Mode" and configure "Custom Dimensions"
  6. Save settings

Step 4: Connect Analytics Dashboard (Optional)

To view GA4 metrics inside ProRank's Analytics dashboard:

  1. Navigate to ProRank SEO → Analytics → Integrations Setup
  2. Click "Connect Google Analytics"
  3. Authorise via the ProRank OAuth proxy (opens a Google consent screen)
  4. Select your GA4 property from the dropdown (saves automatically on change)

GA4 Tracking Script

ProRank SEO outputs the GA4 tracking script on all pages automatically — no need to manually add code or use a separate plugin. The script respects consent mode settings when configured.

GDPR Compliance

ProRank SEO integrates with third-party consent plugins (Cookiebot, Complianz, WP Consent API) and supports IP anonymisation to help with GDPR compliance.

Data Retention

Data retention periods are configured in your Google Analytics 4 admin panel (Admin → Data Settings → Data Retention). ProRank SEO does not store analytics data locally.

Important Note

Make sure to add your domain to the referral exclusion list in GA4 to prevent self-referrals from skewing your data.
